Trauma comes in various forms, and all of us experience some degree of trauma in our lifetime. From acute incidents such as a car accident or an assault, to chronic traumatic experiences of abuse, neglect, and loss, events such as these can leave a lasting and devastating impact on our lives.

Do you experience “triggers” that remind you of traumatic memories? Do frightening memories replay in your mind over and over or come out frequently in nightmares? Do you find yourself feeling disconnected or numb? Do your emotions feel out of control and your body tense and on guard? You may be experiencing symptoms of PTSD. Therapy for Childhood Trauma
Combining a holistic view and knowledge of neuropsychology, we take great care in supporting those who have experienced trauma during childhood. No matter how big or small the experiences may seem. We have extensive training in helping those who have experienced childhood traumatic events and are committed to continuing our professional development in this subject through ongoing trainings and consultation.
What is Relational Trauma?
If you experienced relational trauma throughout childhood, such as ongoing abuse and neglect, you might experience symptoms of complex post traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD) as an adult. Common experiences of this are pervasive feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and low self-worth. Constant scanning for emotional safety, disconnection from your self and your needs, and difficulty with trust and stability in relationships. While we can’t rewrite the past, together we can make sense of it, grieve it, and heal it so that it no longer governs your present.
Therapy for Trauma and PTSD
Attachment Focused EMDR (AF-EMDR) and Somatic Therapy
Trauma is not only stored in the mind, but also our bodies. Traditional talk therapy goes a long way in helping us heal, but true healing from trauma must involve experiential and somatic approaches to reconnect our mind with our bodies and release the pain stored from traumatic memories. We utilize Attachment Focused EMDR (AF-EMDR) and the Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM).
Internal Family Systems (IFS) or “Parts Work”
With the IFS model, we will look at all the different parts or aspects of your personality that make up who you are today. We will develop an understanding of your deep internal world, and through self compassion, release the burdens you carry. This model is very powerful in healing childhood trauma.
Relational Therapy
Our work is relational and we pull upon evidence based theories with all of our clients. If you are interested in knowing about the approaches we use most, here is some therapy jargon for you! Our foundational approach is psychodynamic and attachment focused. we use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques along with somatic and experiential therapies.
